Dragonfly Skimming the Pond
A wild hawker dragonfly with blurred wings skims a still pond at dawn on an overcast day, sending a crown of droplets and rings across the surface.
Small 640×480, Medium 1200×900
Authentic nature photograph, 4:3 landscape. A single wild emperor-type hawker dragonfly with a green thorax and blue-banded abdomen skims just above a still woodland pond, banking in profile from a low side viewpoint about three metres away. Its wings are softly motion-blurred while head and body stay sharp, with accurate venation and compound eyes. Its tail tip has just touched the water, throwing a small crown of fine droplets and spreading concentric rings that shatter the mirror surface. The dragonfly sits right of centre. Left of it, open pale grey water reflects the sky, and soft out-of-focus reeds and willow edge the far bank. Flat diffuse overcast daylight, natural muted greens, silver and slate, believable exposure, 400mm lens, fast shutter, shallow depth of field, subtle sensor grain. Quiet documentary feel with a gentle sense of lift. No people, no text, no logos.
